Well, it’s 8am on what I think is a Wednesday , in beautiful Sedona, Az. With the Red Rocks in my view, I’m sitting at our Motel’s eating area for the “Continental Breakfast” while the rest of the guys sleep the morning away. There’s something about waking up early, having a bowl of cereal with cup of coffee and a newspaper with all the Retired Couples that are grabbing a little nosh before getting ready to hop into their RV and hit the next golf course. I surely am a people watcher. I will just sit In a corner and watch others have their conversations (I especially love it when people really genuinely laugh hard in public). It makes me smile. (I hope this doesn’t make me a stalker)
I was having a conversation with another traveler about being on the road for months at a time. All he said was “home is where you make it”. It took me awhile to understand but with every new mile I travel, I slowly realize what he’s saying. When you are so far away from home, it is the little things you see, feel and the people you meet that makes home feel not so far away.
I’ve been on the road for about 3 years and 5 months traveling around the world just to chase a dream. I probably would of quit years ago if It wasn’t for all the amazing souls that have let me sleep on their floor when we had no where to crash or feed us a home cooked meal because we’ve been eating PB & J or Taco bell for a month straight (Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Taco Bell.. But I think I was growing an extra toe because of it). It’s those people that get me up in the morning so I can travel to the next town and attempt to get others to forget about life for a second and have a good time.
As I start the next leg of this tour with a bunch of new band members, (I’ll introduce you to them soon), I remember what my parents have always told me in the past about life, “It’s not the destination it’s the journey”.
I couldn’t agree more.
Enjoy your Wednesday,
P.S. Thank you to everyone who has let me sleep on their couch or have fed this Afro once or twice. You are the reason I play.
