20120418-154524.jpgDear Friends,

Well.. 2 hours in, driving through the heart of Kansas with 8.5 hours left until we get to our destination (which is Stillwater, OK today) on the quest to soul fulfillment made me realize how important it is to have people around you that really inspire you to be the best you can be even when your down and out (or hungover). If the road taught me one thing, it’s that you can’t walk it alone.

Alright, let me tell you something about myself… I’m fucking stubborn but working on it.

For Real.. My whole life I’ve always tried to do things by myself. If its playing with the invisible batman when I was ten, becoming a solo artist or starting my own record label, I felt like I knew all the answers and what I wanted (or at least Batman did). But when the time came to take off the cape and get ready to play with real people, I would always seem to close my book when someone is about to read it or when people get to close to my heart I run to the hills (thank you Iron Maiden). This is probably why I’ve never kept a girlfriend or a rhythm section for longer then a year. What I’m (slowly) learning is to trust people with their opinions and be open minded with new ideas instead of closing up whenever they give a taste of something you don’t like.

I’ve been on the road for close to five years now, trying to learn from every road bump, couch, cutup foot and stage dive to help me grow as a person, musically and personally. What I’m coming to understand Is that, even if I don’t get “successful” (according to the sheep) with this music thing and life doesn’t gift me with a grammy or a super model philanthropist with a PHD (I’m pushing my luck on that one). I can still be happy that I at least gave it all I can and did not do it alone. I shared it with a group of people that all believed in it as well. To take as much as I give and share with people who deserve it. That’s success in my book.

Because every big idea needs its inventor, like the living needs a heart, or a artist needs its muse. If we can lose the selfish side of us, give as much as we take, understand that everything is a gift and nothing is your birthright, then we can work together in sharing happiness.

There’s no need to compete with each other.. There is plenty of happiness to go around! Lets start helping each other out so we can all have that chance to put that big smile on someone else’s face. So find your muse (or in my case 5 smelly musicians and one monster) that wants to share the long walk to the middle with you. Because if we’re all going to meet there eventually, I’d rather meet with smiles on each of our faces.. Don’t you think? What’s the point of doing something awesome if you can’t share it with anybody! It’s not like we can take it with us when it’s our turn to leave the party..

Be the change you want to see in the world and lets be soldiers in the pursuit of happiness.

Forever Inspired,

AF
